When using the instrument, put an appropriate amount of sample into a special glass coking bottle with a capillary tube, and place it in a metal furnace maintained at a certain temperature. The sample is quickly heated to a temperature at which all volatile substances escape from the bottle mouth, while the heavier residues remain in the bottle for cracking and coking reactions.
